British Values

Promoting Fundamental British Values

In accordance with The Department for Education at St Pancras we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain.

Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views; these views must be challenged if they are contrary to fundamental British values e.g. Including ‘extremist’ views.

The Key Values and how we promote them are:

•    Democracy – School council, Pupil voice – giving our children the opportunity to contribute to and take part in decisions about the school and its community.

•    Rule of Law – Our behaviour policy and high expectations support our children in their understanding of their responsibility to follow rules and the consequences when rules are not followed.

•    Individual liberty – Within school, everyone is actively encouraged to make choices and express their views, knowing they are in a safe and supportive environment.

•    Mutual respect – At St Pancras, our strong Catholic ethos and Christian values encourage everyone to consider and support each other and to celebrate the worth and individuality of every member of the school community.

•    Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs – The Religious Education and PSHE schemes of work provide opportunities for pupils to develop tolerance of and empathy towards those from different faiths, beliefs and cultures.
